On June 30, 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) launched “Rays of Hope,” a platform to promote and disseminate the use of radiation medicine in cancer treatment, at the African Union Headquarters.

Supported by Japan as a donor, the platform is contributing to the development of medical systems in various countries through multiple projects, including the introduction of mammography in Africa in collaboration with private companies and the provision of eye cancer treatment equipment to Ukraine.

Furthermore, based on the platform's philosophy, Japan is leveraging its network of 16 institutions, including universities, hospitals, and research institutions nationwide, to focus not only on equipment provision but also on training in each region. Ambassador Nakagawa also attended the event and emphasized the importance of promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy and international cooperation, given that Japan is the only country in the world to have suffered atomic bombings.
